Fishing Sapphire Coast

The far South Coast of New South Wales is known as the Sapphire Coast. It stretches from Bermagui in the North to the Victorian border in the South. Eden and Two Fold Bay are located at the Southern end of the Sapphire coast.

The local Eden area was first settled in the early 1880s and soon became a whale hunting region operating out of Two Fold Bay.

The Ben Boyd Tower located on South Head is the most prominet relic of the era and it was used by whale spotters who would alert the whaling boats when a whale was sighted.

Now the local area depends on forests and wood products as well as the remnants of the fishing fleet.

There is a thriving port including local wharves in Snug Cove as well as the Navy wharf and the SEFI wood chip facilities.

Quarantine Bay features a four boat ramp and is the centre of the local amateur fishing industry. Two Fold Bay has easy access to blue water fishing with no bar crossing. There is significant hard stand parking for cars and trailers as well as additional parking under trees.

Local amateur fishing extends from Two Fold Bay South through to Green Cape, Disaster Bay and beyond, North to Tathra and beyond as well as East to the continental shelf.

There is also estuarine fishing in local lakes and rivers from Bega in the North to as far as Mallacoota and beyond in the South.
